Leads and Harnesses

Rope leads are durable and give you a good grip in wet conditions. Flat nylon leads are lighter and easier to pack in a bag when you are heading out. For most dogs and most situations, either works well.
Harnesses are worth considering for dogs that pull consistently, dogs recovering from neck or trachea issues, or dogs that do a lot of vehicle travel. A harness takes the force off the neck and spreads it across the chest, which is easier on the dog over time. It also gives you a better grab point when lifting a dog in or out of a car.
